Lunar New Year
January 26, 2009 at 10:11 am | In Anything Whatever | 1 CommentFinally its the Lunar New Year, the year of the Ox has began. Its a time for feasting, drinking, mingling and talking.
For me, I find that it is the time where we meet up all the tons of relatives that you hardly meet during the year, and somehow this is one of the day where you will get to see most, if not all of them. It is also during such meeting up that there will be updating of information. Things like where you working now, when you giving birth, when you giving birth to another kid, when you getting married, when you getting a gf/bf, and a lot of when….
Well, I find it always fun to come up with lame and crappy replies to the tons of when questions. More so if the one that posed the questions is some relatives that we ‘love’. I can foresee this year the heat is on me, especially on my status of being single and available. Haaa… anyway, had more or less prepared a few well-crafted answers to counter the questions.
The answers to “Eh… When you going to get a gf and get married arh?”
1) I would need to see which one to fly them in, Malaysia, China, Bintan, Batam, Thailand, Vietnam. So many how to choose?
2) Girlfriends I got alot, but the one that can marry home one still not available yet.
3) When the girl I want to marry decide to know me and get me to marry her.
4) When I am the proud winner of the coming Toto 10 Million draw. Don’t say gf, mistress I also can get.
Haa… Well lets see how I will survive with this 4 first. Who knows I can come up with more along the way.
Anyway… Happy New Year to one and all!!!
Non Vi Sed Arte – Not With Force But With Skill
January 17, 2009 at 4:06 pm | In Anything Whatever | Leave a CommentHad attended a wedding dinner of my Secondary School friend, SS last night at the Bukit Batok Civil Service Club. It turned out to be more like a class reunion for me than a wedding dinner. As SS had invited quite a number of friends who were from the same class during our secondary school days, thus the whole table were folks from the same class sitting together.
As we sat and relived the good old days, more of our classmates turn up. Though there were some of the friends we saw that we recognise but somehow couldn’t remember the name. It was like at least 10 years since the few of us last seen each other. Though most of us hasn’t change much in terms of appearance, just that everyone seems to have put on weight. We start updating each other on what we are doing and start reliving the good old days. Seeing the whole table consisting of ex-beattyians, we were joking that we should have came in our uniform and put on our school badge as well. With that, our famous Non Vi Sed Arte school motto came out and we were all laughing at how we still remember the motto.
Its good to see everyone again after such a long time. Especially knowing that everyone is doing well in their respective career. To think quite a number of the folks were like being condemn by the teachers back then in school. But well, I guess as everyone grow and age, the mindset will change and now everyone is doing well and fine.
It sure was a good night of joy for SS and his wife, and a night for all of us to gather, catch up and relive the good old days of our secondary school lives.
A song/video that always come to my mind when I think of the friends from Secondary School.
The Dentist
January 15, 2009 at 10:40 pm | In Anything Whatever | Leave a CommentSince got time today, so decide to pay my dentist a visit. Was quite looking forward to it, as I wanted to know the status of my teeth after my last visit to her since 2007. Actually had visited the dentist at camp but somehow wasn’t that satisfied with the care they provided. So decide to visit my dentist for an update.
Upon starting the treatment, she notice that one of the tooth at the bottom is showing signs of decay. The amazing thing about this decay is that, you won’t even know it existed, as its not those decay that happen on the tooth surface where it has the black thingy. This one starts near the gum area and when I touch it with my finger, it has this rough rough feeling. Lucky thing is that, its not that serious. So a simple filling will solve the problem. Well… quite sad to hear the news, cos I always thought I had taken care of my teeth well. But somehow not sure how come still got such problem.
Apart from that, she also helped to clean up my teeth. This is another tedious procedure for her, as she will have to dig out all the tartar (thats the result of plague being built up that is trapped in between the teeth). She actually managed to dig out small stone like particles in between the teeth . So now, apart from brushing, have to focus on flossing as well. Since she said that flossing will help to prevent gum disease which is a bigger problem than tooth decay.
Well.. its such times where I am glad that I make it a point to visit my dentist regularly. Especially since my teeth are crooked and crowded. So it essential to get professional dental treatment to make sure my teeth are well taken care. Which of course will always lead to the question if I am keen to put braces. The purpose is not so much for the appearance, but to minimize the risk of tooth decay or gum disease due to no proper dental care.
Ok… Have to include a new routine into my night brushing now, that will be to floss the teeth to make sure its really clean. Furthermore, she will teach me how to floss during my next appointment when I do the filling.
Ohh.. what a day!!
The 3 Musketeer AGM
January 13, 2009 at 12:37 am | In Anything Whatever | Leave a CommentHad met up with my 2 best buddy since Secondary School, E and CP. Actually had always meet up with E for our regular walkabout and drinking session. But its harder to get CP to meet up as he working in retail line plus having a wife and kid to take care of, he is not having so much freedom as compared to both E and me.
So today finally managed to ‘date’ CP out for dinner and drinks. Was supposed to have dinner at Billy Bombers, Marina Square since I got a $15 discount voucher to use. But last minute, CP suggested we have steamboat at Novena instead, as we can eat till our fill with the buffet steamboat. So no choice, last minute change of venue.. Both E and I head to Novena and wait for CP to arrive.
Being friends for more than 10 years, the 3 of us are very close together. We are open with our views and we can talked about anything under the sun. Though most of the time, we will be joking, making fun of each other, ganging up together to make fun of each other and all sorts of nonsensical things we can think of.
Our friendship actually started during our secondary 4 days, where because of our craze over IRC chat that we start to get real close together. Then our friendship developed from there and the 3 of us even went job hunting together after our ‘O’ level days. Though it ended up with E and me working together at the local departmental store while CP working in a DIY store at the basement, but the good thing was, all 3 of us were working in the same building.
So as we moved on from Secondary School life to Poly life for the 2 of them, while I went on with my ITE education. We still keep in contact and even had our regular outings. So this went on till we all got enlisted into the Army, then came out to work. Now all of us are having a stable career, doing well in our respective fields. The strong friendship still remains.
Though the 3 of us do not meet up that often now, from the initial once every few months to now once a year. It kind of remind me of those AGM. But its an AGM for the 3 of us. As we will meet up, talk non-stop, feast and then drink. We will talk about our good old days in Secondary School, update each other of the peers that we are in contact and of course also updating what and how we are doing. It sure brings back lots of good memories.
That is why, I am always proud to have these 2 buddies with me. Cos they are one of the few buddies I had that we are still able to keep in contact for 10 over years.
The Unforgetten Heroes
January 3, 2009 at 12:54 am | In Anything Whatever | Leave a CommentHad went to our Branch’s NE Tour today. We had chosen the Military Defence tour, where we will be visiting some of the historic sites where some of the battles were fought in Singapore during World War II.
What I enjoyed most about the tour was when we visited the last stop. Reflections at Bukit Chandu, a historic site where Singapore’s fiercest battle was fought against the Japanese by the 1st Malay Regiment. The was where the last battle against the Japanese were fought before the fall of Singapore. The fierce resistance by the Malay Regiment had hampered the advance of the Japanese but due to the lack of ammunition, the Malay Regiment were eventually over-run by the attacking Japanese.
Am personally very touched by the actions of the 1st Malay Regiment, where their undying spirit of defending Singapore to their last is really impressive. Personally had felt that more should be done to bring the stories of the 1st Malay Regiment out to the younger generations. As if not for this tour, I would not have known so much about this group of heroes. As when asked by the tour guide who are the local war heroes we knew. Lim Bo Seng seems to be the first person that comes to my mind. Now I can proudly say the group from the 1st Malay Regiment and 2LT Adnad Saidi are another local war heroes I must remember.
An educating tour and it is one that I would recommend every Singaporeans to at least go and learn more about our histories.
Brand New Year
January 1, 2009 at 10:24 pm | In Anything Whatever | 2 CommentsIts year 2009, a brand new year. Though there have been talks that this year will be a challenging year due to the economic situation worldwide. Lets hope that things will be fine for all.
Had finally cleared up my room in preparation of the approaching Chinese New Year. To be exact, had cleared up my desk. Now it looks so much neater, so happy! (Let me take a photo of it later…) Had also threw away quite a bit of things as well. Guess must really kick the habit of always keeping things for memories sake. Didn’t know I kept so much things throughout the year.
Had went for the New Year prayer at my association today. Saw all my good brothers/comrades of faith all working together for the well-being of our members. Of course as usual, we will always talk and joke amidst all these works. Sure its fun to have such good brothers and comrades around all the time.
Ohh… went past the market at my area after dinner just now, as I need to withdraw some money. Finally the market is open for business after being closed for renovations for like 6 months…. The whole layout has changed, so I don;t know if the usual stalls are still around or there are new stalls setting up. Must find a time to go check it out…. Missed some of the food stalls there, as there are really limited variety of food to eat without the market. So now that the market is back in operation, hope to have new stuffs to eat.
Haa… Was thinking about this for the past few days. Setting new year resolutions. As I never seem to be able to fulfill any of those, so I never wanted to set one. But this year, I think I must set some resolutions so as to keep me focus on some of the things that I need to do.
Ok… here is the one that actually get me all started about setting resolutions.
1) Start my exercise regime (Tone the body up a little and to make sure my chest don;t turn into man-boobs). Somehow the idea of having man-boobs is quite scary. So with such fear elements, it should get me started on the exercise regime.
